I have never really cared for Jim Carrey as an actor before. I think ‘Mask’ occupied most of my mental space allotted for Jim.
But after Bruce Almighty, The Truman Show and now, Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, I think he is an amazing actor. I watched ESSM ( yes I can abbreviate the way I want) on the flight back to Madras and loved it. Kate is a brilliant actress and there is no surprise element to that. But this guy was so so so great. Reminded me of Prabhudeva in spurts but a nice version of the korangu.
The narration style is non linear and very engaging. I also think the fantasy element to the story telling was very natural and extremely attractive(atleast to me). Sometimes when a movie maker has to show something happening, he has to stick to the physics of reality which according to me can sometimes constrain. But this kind of story telling is an imaginative person’s paradise (provided they don’t abuse the privilege they have given themselves)When there are movies like this being made, how can the world go gaga over inception? But then this is the world where Anbe Sivam was a flop. So what can anyone say?
After twelve monkeys, this is the next movie that gave me a happy high.Did I mention that they title sends a shiver down my spine?
